These workshops aim to inform the audience of IC's equipment-based technology and how to use it to ensure longer pavement lives. IC machines are vibratory rollers with mounted accelerometers, a Global Positioning System (GPS), and infrared sensors to track asphalt temperature. The system's actual implementation is user-friendly: IC equipment collects the data during compaction and on-board computers display the information. The computers' accessible color-coded maps allow users to track roller passes, asphalt surface temperatures, and stiffness of compacted materials in real time.
Due to IC's relative newness to most DOTs and contractors, IC workshops are crucial for bringing people up to speed on implementation of IC technology in order to improve the compaction quality of several materials: granular soils, cohesive soils, stabilized base, and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavements. In an effort to accelerate the implementation of IC, these workshops aim to achieve satisfactory technology transfer and basic training in just one day.

To address the specific needs of a diverse group of users, two kinds of workshops are offered: the Essential IC Workshop and the Practical IC-Veda Workshop.
Essential IC Workshop:
This workshop emphasizes the fundamentals of intelligent compaction and compaction quality control/assurance. Workshop organizers will take a descriptive approach using images and providing the participants with "must-know" concepts. Participants will be directed through a complete IC process with simple case studies.
Practical ICDM-Veda Workshop:
To fit the needs of IC practitioners, the Practical Intelligent Constrcution Data management (ICDM)-Veda Workshop provides more detailed training for those who work in the trenches. Though workshop organizers will present some limited IC fundamental material as a refresher, the workshop's main focus will be step-by-step planning, field implementation, and data management with the Veda IC viewing and analysis tool. A comprehensive set of hands-on workshop examples will be used to demonstrate how to fully take advantage of IC for various systems, field conditions, and compacted materials.
